Living In North Center
North Center real estate consists of well-kept grand Victorian homes along tree-lined streets in the east, high end condos along the riverfront in the west and rehabbed brick 2 and 3 flats throughout the middle. Homes cost a little less here than in other north-side Chicago neighborhoods that are a little further south or east and they boast amenities like 2-car garages which are rare in other neighborhoods.
The neighborhood is a balance of residential and business areas with plenty of local restaurants and independent shops. It continues to grow and become more culturally diverse and includes bowling alleys, three city parks – including an indoor ice arena, a library, a movie theater complex, and Northcenter Town Square which is home to a Farmer’s Market on Saturdays from June to October.
North Center is located in zip codes 60613 and 60618 five miles north of Downtown Chicago. It borders Lakeview, Ravenswood, Roscoe Village and Irving Park. Getting around is a breeze as streets are normally not too congested other than at rush hour when things slow a bit around the intersections of Addison and Western and Irving and Westen. Parking is easy as there are few permit parking zones. Commuting into the Loop is easy as there are ramps onto the Kennedy just a few miles west. There’s also plenty of easy access bus stops and El stations. Particulalry the three Brown line stations at Addison, Irving Park and Montrose Ave.
