Lincoln Square is bordered by Foster on the north, Montrose on the south, Damen on the east, and the Chicago River on the west. It grew as a larger community in the early 1900's when elevated train tracks were constructed through the neighborhood. Homes were built near the train stations which encouraged city dwellers to move out of the congestion of Chicago.
There are many types of homes in Lincoln Square which range from the Victorian era to contemporary styles. The neighborhood is filled with tree-lined residential streets that make for a comfortable living environment. Annual events that attract residents and visitors include the Summer Concert Series, the Chicago Folk & Roots music festival and the German-American Fest.
The heart of Lincoln Square - at Lincoln, Western and Lawrence Avenues - is a step back in time. From the 3,000 square foot outdoor mural of a German landscape to the 19th century Lombard street lamps donated by the city of Hamburg, as well as the 35 year old Brauhaus Restaurant. There is an authentic charm in Lincoln Square that many people find attractive.
