Ukrainian Village / Bucktown / Wicker Park

These three neighborhoods blend together to form a vibrant and eclectic area of Chicago. Bucktown is located with North Avenue as its southern border, Fullerton Parkway to the north, Ashland Avenue to the east and Western Avenue to the west.

Just south of Bucktown is Wicker Park which gets its name from Charles and Joel Wicker who donated a 4 acre plot of land to be used as a park. Wicker Park's boundaries are the Chicago River to the east, Western Avenue to the west, Division Street to the south, and Bloomingdale Avenue to the North.

Ukrainian Village which gets its name from Ukrainian immigrants that settled there is located with Division Street to the north, Grand Avenue to the south, Western Avenue to the west, and Damen Avenue to the east. Ukrainian Village is home to many orthodox churches, the Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art, the Ukrainian National Museum, and the Ukrainian Cultural Center.

Wicker Park is a busy community where people are always out walking the streets and dining in the restaurants. Many artists live in the area and it's home to many galleries. Artists moved into the area after wealthy residents moved out, real estate prices declined and artists took advantage by setting up galleries. The majority of the residents are in their twenties and early thirties. Young professionals are purchasing homes that were once converted into apartment spaces and are now converting them back to single family dwellings.

Wicker Park's close proximity to the Loop and its reasonably priced real estate has made it an attractive place for young people to live. Residents have a direct, ten minute ride to the Loop and thirty minute commute to O'Hare via the CTA's Blue Line. There is so much variety with dining, live music, coffee houses, and galleries, there is no need to leave Wicker Park to be entertained. Wicker Park holds the annual Wicker Park Fest, a two day music festival at the end of July. There is also a monthly art gallery exhibit held at the historic Flat Iron Arts Building.
