Beacon Lofts offers some of the best loft living in Chicago for two important reasons; its superb West Loop location and its truly authentic loft features. When it was converted into 48 duplex lofts in 1998, this turn of the century West Loop newspaper plant was in what can aptly be described as a wasteland of empty lots and crumbling warehouses. Absolutely agree with Sumi but we’ll use 1 word – Chuck! About 6 months ago we started a search for a condo in the River North or Old Town areas. Chicago’s October 2013 home sales volume and pricing continued to grow and are up nicely over the October 2012 comparable numbers. In addition, the average number of days it took to sell a Chicago home or condo is down again reflecting the continued shift in housing supply and demand. Yes iconic and yes better than ever! Best Chicago Properties is just around the corner from Skybridge which is located at the corner of Halsted and W. Washington (737 W. Washington Blvd. / 1 N. Halsted) so we’ve helped a few clients buy and sell in the building over the years. However, for a number of reasons the building hasn’t ever really been on our list of favorites. That’s changed.
When marketing began they seemed to have had an identity crisis. Instead of marketing the units for what they were, namely luxury condos with stunning city views in an interesting modernist building, someone decided they needed to be “loft-like” to compete with the less pricey soft-loft units that were popping up all over the West Loop at the time. So some of the initial units were super high end luxury while some were just over-priced very poorly finished loft-like units with little to no character. The building took many years to sell out and that created a cloud of doubt about the building. So this identity crisis plus these clouds of doubt took years to fade.
